Dorset apple cake
Recipe yields 6 servings
Ingredients
- 8 ounces plain flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
- 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- salt
- 4 ounces butter
- 4 ounces caster sugar
- 8 ounces apples, peeled and diced
- 1 pieces egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
Directions
Pre-heat oven to 180C. Grease and line a 20cm square cake tin.
Sift flour, spices and baking powder into a bowl and add pinch of salt. Rub in buter.
Stir in sugar and diced apples.
Beat egg with milk then stir into dry ingredients to form a stiff dough.
Fill the cake tin (it should be quite shallow).
Bake for 45-60 minutes in the pre-heated oven; test with a skewer to check.
Leave to cool in the tin.
